Times Square reflects the changing times of New York City, from the early days through the gritty 1970’s to the fully transformed gathering area that Times Square has become today.  Some say Times Square is ‘too commercial’ but that is just a reflection of the many massive and brightly lit billboards that frame Times Square announce upcoming movie or television project or product launches and Broadway shows.

Automobile traffic through Times Square has been restricted so that Times Square can become more tourist friendly and become more of a gathering place in the center of Manhattan. The city has even provided tables and chairs, as well as installing the famous red steps above and behind the TKTS Booth – which incidentally is one of the best places to acquire tickets to Broadway shows and other live events in the city.

Times Square is also the focus of the world during the New Year’s Eve celebration, which is attended by over a million visitors and watched by millions more from around the world.

Times Square also features many interesting shops, bars, restaurants, deli’s, and entertainment venues.  Suffice it to say, there is always something happening in Times Square making it one of the most popular ‘people watching’ spots in the world.
