New York’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a very popular NYC Event and one of the biggest annual celebrations in New York.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins on March 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. and will go along 5th avenue between 44th Street to 79th Street by St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The parade includes Irish dancers, colorful costumes, Bagpipes, marching bands and more.

After the parade (and maybe before) there are many Irish Pubs throughout the city to visit and enjoy a pint of ale to set the tone for a great celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.  Many of the Irish Pubs serve traditional Irish fare for those wanting to grab a traditional Irish lunch.

Also, you may try one of the popular St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawls that take you along a planned route of designated Irish Pubs.

As part of the celebration and recognition of the Irish culture during St. Patrick’s Day, or before or after, consider learning more about the Irish-rich heritage that is such a big part of the New York and American history.  Consider, visiting the Tenement Museum, which presents the typical life experience of an Irish immigrant family from the 19th century.  This is a great activity any time of year.

You may also be interested in the Merchant’s House Museum which is a very interesting museum about a family of Irish immigrants who once served as staff at the home.

Also, the Irish Hunger Memorial is located in Battery Park and tells the story of Ireland’s devastating potato famine known as the ‘Great Hunger.’

We are all a little ‘Irish’ on St. Patrick’s Day and some are Irish all year long, but you don’t need to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, or to learn more about the Irish heritage and the important role it has played in building of America.
